Ortic 3D AB Company Information

General information

Our technology

ORTIC AB manufactures machines for roll forming of sheet metal. In simplified terms, a flat strip of steel enters a machine and then emerges in the shape desired by the customer The sheet can be bent, folded, stamped and profiled so that it is shaped by traditional techniques into such things as curtain poles, downpipes or shelf brackets. A number of new areas requiring variable shapes can be identified with the new advanced and dynamic 3D roll forming technology.

Roll forming is a production method in which profiles are formed when the sheet passes through a series of roll stands that gradually change its shape. There is therefore no reduction rolling, only profile bending. The gradual progress of the forming operation means that roll forming is gentle on the material being worked and that all metallic materials can be shaped, whatever their strength.

Traditional roll forming (2D) means that the sheet metal passes through a series of roll stands that successively change flat sheets to the final required shape. The shape of the profile is the same throughout its length.

The new technology for advanced dynamic roll forming (3D) means that the incoming sheet passes a number of individually mobile computer-controlled roll stands that allow the finished profile to vary along its length. Technology developed by Ortic also makes it possible to curve the profile while roll forming is in progress.

The difference between 2D and 3D roll forming, in brief, is that 2D technology always produces a finished profile with the same appearance, while 3D formed profiles vary along their length. The new 3D technology is also very flexible as profiles with different geometry can be fabricated by merely adjusting control of the roll movements.

Ortic's technology for advanced dynamic roll forming is protected by a large number of worldwide patents.

The future and opportunities for 3D roll forming are very bright and are limited only by the imagination of designers and engineers.
