Inhaler Testing

Emmace Consulting has an excellent knowledge in analysing and evaluating inhalers, prototypes and explorative formulations by different experimental methods. Emmace Consulting offer and perform these specialized studies in our laboratories which are dedicated for inhaler performance testing.
For particle sizing of the aerosol that leaves the inhaler device, we use cascade impactors for aerodynamic characterisation. We also perform Laser Diffraction measurements, plume geometry/spray pattern, delivered dose uniformity testing, and determination of the air flow resistance of the inhalation product.

The inhaler characterisation studies are planned and designed in close collaboration with the client.

List of experimental analyses:

Delivered dose uniformity and aerodynamic particle size distribution assessment according to Pharmacopeias, such as US Pharmacopeia and European Pharmacopeia 2.9.18, 2.9.44
Particle size distribution analysis by laser diffraction. For DPIs, bespoke inhaler housings are constructed to press out the dose into the laser beam
Nebulizer characterization using breathing patterns and chilled impactor according to Pharmacopeias
Plume geometry/spray pattern and high speed imaging using the Envision system from Oxford Lasers
Fast characterization of the aerodynamic properties using Aerodynamic Particle Sizer (APS) 3321 in combination with the dilutor Impactor Inlet 3306.
